Interlake Mecalux pallet rack systems are engineered in accordance with the 2023 Rack Manufacturers Institute design standards, recognized by ANSI and referenced in the International Building Code. System designs also comply with AISI specifications and meet regulations set by IAS.

Upright frames

Vertical elements formed by two posts (also known as columns) connected using horizontal and diagonal struts. The posts are slotted every 2″ to accommodate the beams.

Beams

Roll-formed beams are horizontal steel elements with welded endplates that slot into teardrop-shaped frame holes, secured by two spring-loaded locking devices. Each load level consists of two beams, one at each frame post.

Piston lock

Interlake Mecalux’s exclusive locking system, integrated into the beam’s endplate, securely connects the beam to the upright post, preventing accidental dislodgement.

Standard footplates

Bolted or welded to the base of the upright posts and anchored to the floor. Different types of footplates are available, depending on the post model and the load to be supported.

Heavy-duty footplates

In special instances where high-seismic activity or excessive height-to-depth ratio of upright frames is determined. Bolted or welded oversized footplates are available.

Anchor bolts

High-strength components used to secure the structure’s footplates to the floor. They are adapted to the floor type and the forces the racking must withstand.

Shims

Shims are metal plates matching the dimensions of footplates, used to level racks on uneven surfaces. Different shims are available for each type of footplate.

Row spacers

Steel elements used to join two upright frames together, providing higher stability to the structure.

Frame splicing

Used to increase the height of an existing upright frame. Steel pieces, bolts, and nuts secure the bottom frame to a footless frame extension.

Pallet rack protectors

Accessories designed to absorb accidental impacts caused by handling equipment on the lower levels, preventing damage to the frames.

Tunnel bays

Tunnel bays are formed by removing the lower beam levels that run through the racking rows, facilitating access to the loading aisles.

RMI signs

RMI signs are commonly placed at the end of aisles to alert warehouse or storage facility personnel responsible for loading/offloading material about the pallet racking’s capacity limits per the current RMI standards.

Backstops

This option features a fully welded, single-assembly design. It offers an easy-to-install alternative to bolted options. Equipped with standard piston locks and endplates, this assembly quickly locks into place without the need for additional hardware. Reconfiguring is as simple as disengaging the piston locks and relocating the pallet stop.
